Origin from the Latin word, Carrus (Chariot). Medieval Latin Carrarius (Road), Old Provencal Carriera (street); Old French, Carrier (Racecourse); from Indo-European roots kers (to Run)
Current meaning, ‘course of an occupation through a significant portion of my Life Track’.
Many of us thought (at the beginning) of Career, as a Chariot for future success. Few years later we accepted it as a Road to future success. In a decade, we realized we are walking the streets to future success. By mid-youth, employment seemed the racecourse, where we are jockeying faster and pipping others backward to win the race. By midlife, we know we are on the blind run, with some sense of success but no more chasing our Dreams, our Passion or our Ideal.
