Tainted Memories

Where do you go when you’re running away from the silence
Where do you go when your mind isn’t as it seems
Can you breathe the air from the ocean around you
Are you truly free in your love for me?
Can you feel the deep pulling at you like a cyclone
Are you poisoned by those who left before
Are you chained by those tainted memories?
Holding back what once was free?
Can you feel what once felt pure, corruption blackens it all
Of all those tainted memories,
The maelstrom runs it all

Oh, darling can you see the tendrils Surrounding what you held heartful and true
Please step into the light, come into what is new
Please don’t let those tainted memories, drag you back into the storm
The dark nights aren’t easy
But you are never alone

I will hold you when you crumble
You will rise above them all
And all those tainted memories
Will not survive the fall
Let them fall into the chasm
Let yourself start anew
For all those tainted memories
Will wrangle you no more

See the light there in front of you
Walk away once more
From all those tainted memories
To a blank slate you will go

What was once pure will rise again
What was hurt once more will heal
From all those tainted memories
You’ll fly free once again

Your chains they will recede
Your lungs clear from the poison
Of all those tainted memories
You’ll tread the path to heal

You’ll be happy once again
Don’t fear, my dear, I say
You’ll rise in the sky like a free bird
Joy will spark again!
