Cognition and Re-cognition are a feature of our Mind’s ability to perceive and familiarize with the outer exposures and experiences of the World. These experiences are in the forms of thoughts, feelings, emotions and physical sensations mediated by the Brain. Our Mind captures and stores these information as Memory and connecting triggers (links to these memories).
Overthinking results from a feature of the Mind, called Loop. Loops have an important role to play in Re-cognition sequences triggered by familiarity, repetition and habituation. ( These three triggers are part of Training methods; Training the Cognition to react and respond to experiences).
While Overthinking is a result of dysfunctional Loops or excessive memories that cannot be put together in a meaningful way to conclude the thinking; Thinking over is a process of functional Loops of accessing memory leading to drawing conclusions and forming definite end points on our Mind Map.
Memories of Past experiences, Present exposures and experiences and desires for future experiences can all be part of the Loops. The question then is how to not become too Loopy or Cognitive Loopers. The answers are more individual specific and become less generic due to our personal experiences that vary a lot in the current state of the World.
The Generic solution is not reacting to every experience, not wanting to know everything and not feel the compulsion to engage in every aspect or novelty seeking in the world. Cognitive numbing is a consequence when we feel ‘I can take in no further learning or re-learning experience‘.
